Free Private Consulting Session On Leveraging The Web For Business

Support Grove City has been growing steadily since it was founded just over 6 months ago. Since that time, more than 100 new and established businesses have joined the directory on our site. And both the businesses and the citizens of Grove City have benefited greatly from learning how to keep their money flowing through their local economy.  But before there was even a website or a directory, the founder, fellow business owner and Grove City resident, Matt Yerkes, had an idea for what it might look like for local owners to work together and communicate on the lessons they’ve learned in running a business. When the American economic crisis began in 2008, it became even more important, not just to “buy local” but to actually work together and support each other through difficult times.  With this in mind, Matt has offered his experience and knowledge as Web Consultant. He has made available 4 One-hour consulting sessions on how to leverage the web and other technology to strengthen your business. For example: If you have a website, he’ll look it over and discuss how what you have already can be combined with some other tools to increase your visibility to your …

Small Business Saturday | Nov 24

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, American Express has created another holiday known as Small Business Saturday. This is a day that consumers, who have just started their holiday shopping season off at “Big Box” stores with Black Friday, are encouraged to go to Main St. in their hometowns and shop at the local small business. This began in November of 2010, well into the tough downturn in our economy. American Express really wanted to help bring something back so they started Small Business Saturday. Some businesses saw increases of nearly 45% that weekend. Other small business saw $10,000 come in just in one day.   Take a look at just some of the videos that thousands of small business owners have made over the past few years. There are some great stories. But the most important one (at least for you) is YOUR story. Follow the directions on this YouTube page, click where it says “Tell Your Story” and create your OWN video just like the ones in the link above. (All you need is a YouTube account for your business, which you can create here if you don’t have one.)   Download these free marketing materials they’ve made available. Banners, Logos, signs …

FB News Feed: Taking Advantage Of The New Changes

After 8 years of rumors and hoaxes that Facebook was going to start charging people money, it looks like one of them might actually be true. DO NOT PANIC. The change adds the “Promote” feature to a post. The draw for companies to pay for such a feature is that Facebook has made it more difficult for something you post on your personal profile (or more applicably, your business’ page) to show up on a friend or fan’s News Feed. An article I found on DMWMedia.com, by author Corey Christiansen of Metia Social Strategy, share some insight. If your number of “Likes” is relatively small (less than 300) don’t worry too much. It’s going to be easier for you to cope than a large company like Nike. Christiansen explans that “… a page with 100 fans can achieve 50 percent reach more easily than a page with 100,000 fans…[meaning that] This change most significantly affected larger pages with low engagement.” Again, while your small business’s reach probably won’t be affected too much, if you have a huge fan base and rely on them to do the work of talking about you, you’ll have to rethink your strategy. Christiansen had …
